David, I have some more information on your search. George Alderson, the son of Rev. John Alderson, Jr. came to the Kanawha Valley of WV and was one of the first county commissioners of the newly formed Kanawha County in 1788. Rev. John Alderson, Jr. married Marry Carroll. As you study your genealogy you will find that the Alderson, Carroll, Morris, and Hanford family members frequenty intermarried and this is why you find Bernard Caroll Alderson with a middle name of "Carroll".We know that there were Martins living on Muddy Creek near Alderson,WV before Rev. Alderson came to the area in 1777.Whether there is a connection with this Martin family, I do not know. Marry Carroll had a sister, Elizabeth, who married William Morris, Jr. who, along with his brother Leonard, were the first permanent white settlers in the Kanawha Valley. Marry Carroll had a brother, Joseph, who also came to the Kanawha Valley.Another of Mary's brother, George, was killed by Indians. There was a William Carroll that came to the Kanawha Valley.I am not certain but I think he was either George's or Joseph's sons. Rev. John Alderson,Jr. was instrumental in establishing about a dozen Baptist churches in the southern part of West Virginia.
