Tim and clackey,
It is obvious that neither of you looked at my webfile:
http://revolution.3-cities.com/~gjansen/alderson.htmhttp://revolution.3-cities.com/~gjansen/alderson.htm
because all of those persons are on it and integrated into my family structure.
I recently visited Fort Laurens at the Forks of the Tuscarawas River near Lisbon, Ohio.
The name of George Osborne, revolutionary war soldier, is written in gold on a list of soldiers on a wood gathering expedition, who were massacred by Simon Girty and his Shawnee Indians in a surprise attack in Feb 1779 at the beginning of the seige of the fort. This George was the bachelor uncle of the Sarah Osborne who married George Alderson. As his eldest brother Josiah Osborne(husband of Margaret Alderson?) received his bounty land grant. The grant was used by Col William Henry Puthoff husband of Josiah's eldest daughter Mary in Ross County OHIO. Mary Osborne Puthoff is buried in the military cemetery at Fort Michilimackinac on Mackinaw Island. Her birthdate corresponds to an estimated year of marriage of Rev Josiah Osborne and Margaret Alderson? in 1778. Puthoff was a notorious Indian agent at the fort, putting the wives and children of the French Canadian trappers out into the snow while their husbands were in Wisconsin. The Puthoffs only daughter Mary Osborne Puthoff married an elder brother of James Pierce, later US president.
This expansionist viewpoint carried from the Forks of the Potomac, to Greenbrier and throughout the old Northwest Territories. Some of the American trappers had come back from Fort Astoria at the mouth of the Columbia River when the British took over in Oregon during the War Of 1812!
If there was a prior relationship between the Aldersons and Osbornes, it is likely that George Alderson was named after him.Later Georges in both families were of course named George W. in honor of George Washington.
I still need proof that Josiah Osborne's wife Margaret was an Alderson. He died in 1845 at the age 0f 95 at West Liberty, logan County OHIO.
