If my Alderete ancestors and relatives looked moorish (swarthy) I could go with that. Unfortunately and gene testing bears it out, they are european.

Being moorish is nothing to be ashamed of I hope, 'cause that's what I look like. This comes from my father's side of the family. We are short, dark, heavily bearded, curly hair and lots of body hair. So, I hope it's nothing to be ashamed of because they are responsible for some of the best arquitecture in Spain. They also produced great systems of irrigating the land in Andalucia. has a pay site that has done much research on family surnames. Unfortunately, if you don't read spanish you may be out of luck. If you're curious you can enter the last name and get a short sampling of what they produce.
