This is your written invitation to join the Alderete Surname Project. I just got my first genetic test results back from the Family Tree labs in Texas. I was prepared for whatever the results would show. Although I'm not Jewish, I was prepared for Jewish ancestry, or whatever my background revealed. But I NEVERED dreamed I was Anglo! My results showed predominant English, Irish, Scottish and German ancestry. My poor Chicana sister fell off her chair when I told her the results. "Ay caramba! Es imposible." She cried. I've signed a release so my results will be publically posted on the Mexico Surname Project. There's another Alderete already posted, Robert Alderete. We both tested as Halpogroup R1B1, the predominant genetic type for Western Europe, and Iberia in particular. Prices for genetic testing came down across the board just last month. For those of us who are of mixed blood, like me the tests will tell us just what our ethnic mix is. My first results were based on my father's Y- DNA. I expect the results based on my mothr's mtDNA in two weeks, and those could be completely different from my inheritance from my dad.
