Jennifer,

In Spain, several branches of the Alderete family arose during the Middle Ages. These branches are in Andalucia, Aragon, Galicia, Madrid, Olmedo, Salamanca, Toledo, Tordesillas, Toro and Valladolid.

The only Alderete I know of that came to Mexico was Julian Alderete from Burgos (probably from the Valladolid branch). Julian Alderete arrived in Mexico in 1525. I strongly suspect that the Alderete's in Mexico (and New Mexico) are descendants of Julian.

Good luck on your family tree, and feel free to email me any time.

Javier
