Lucinda Alderdice and family - 1820, Tenn?

My gg-grandmother was Lucinda Alderdice, born in approximately 1820. The 1860 census report says she was born in New York, but other census reports show her being born in North Carolina or Tennessee (where she lived during the census.) She married Richard B. McGuire in about 1840 and they had Joseph (later a Baptist minister), Richard (a farmer), Monk (a hotel owner), Tobe (a store-owner) and Rachel Pearl McGuire in 1860 -- my great grandmother who married James Henry Andrews.

Someone on the McGuire forum gave me census information indicating there were other children for Lucinda and Richard as well: Felix, Albert, Daniel, James and Perlena. (Monk and Tobe were not listed, so perhaps our family had nicknames for some on record?)

If any of these names are familiar to you, I would appreciate any further information regarding the Alderdice family. Where did they come from originally, and when? Does anyone know the Alderdice roots in America? Did they begin in New York, or the south? And why has this family dwindled down to a mere eight postings on Genforum? It is sure not a common name. Is it Irish, or Scottish? Any information you can give me would be great. Thanks in advance!!
