I had found about a 4 year discrepancy in records for the birthdate of Edward L Alcorn from Dallas Cty, Iowa. In the 1880 and 1885 census records it appeared his birthday should have been around 1874. However in later census records, and on his WWI Draft registration card, he indicated he'd been born Feb 8, 1878.
Yesterday I was informed of a letter that had been written by Edward's daughter Thelma in 1994 in which Thelma had written that Edward had been placed under guardianship as a child, and he really didn't know how old he was.
Thelma went to the Adel Court house in Dallas Cty, Iowa and asked for old records of about the year she figured he would have been 21 and she found where he was released from custody, and that he had been born Feb 8, 1874.
