I heard the same story from my father years ago. There is one difference...my Dad said the original name was Robertson, and that they were Scottish. I suspect your information is more accurate.

My father was Russell Alcorn (1926-1989), son of Ernest Jerome Alcorn of Alma County, New brunswick, Canada.
