My Alcorn family came from Ireland and was told by several people that the family originated frrom Scotland. My Alcorn family came to the USA in 1849 and resided in Howard County, Maryland not too far from Sandy Springs, Maryland.With the research I have found they did not have any hired hands, they worked their farm themselves.They are other Alcorn's that were in DC that came down from Phily.
