On vacation in Australia during July 2001 I was surprised to find 49 Alcorns listed in the Sydney, Australia phone directory. I phoned Robert Alcorn and was amazed to find that the Alcorns in Australia had a Family Reunion in 1977(190 Alcorns attended) and a book "Alcorn Early History" compiled by Wesley (Fred) Alcorn detailing the Alcorns emmigration to Australia starting with William Alcorn in 1848 and then Robert Alcorn and Joseph Alcorn (with their families) onboard the "Pedestrian" leaving Liverpool and arriving in Melbourne in 1857, existed.
Robert Alcorn gracioiusly sent me a copy of the book. Part of the history comes from James Alcorn, written in 1894 when he was 75 years old. There are also genealogical family listings going back to 1612.
My interest was piqued by the information prior to the crossing to Australia (as my ancestors emmigrated to America) which indicates Alcorns in England went to Scotland then Ireland and then to Canada, America, and Australia.
My father, Richard Alcorn, is found in the book "The Pershing Family in America" published in 1924. (I found this book in the FHC in Los Angeles.) My Alcorn patriarchal line is:
Richard Alcorn (father Ohio),
John Stuart Alcorn (gf, Pennsylvania), Richard Alcorn (g gf, Pennsylvania),
George Alcorn (gg gf, Pennsylvania),
Michael Alcorn (ggg gf, Ireland),
William Alcorn? (gggg gf, Ireland).
It is the Irish line where I get stuck. Any suggestions?
