Lt. Col. John Dormer Alcock of the British Army regiments of Ireland was part of the Alcock family established in Downpatrick, County Down.

John Alcock of the 17th century had three known sons (1) William, his heir and (2) the second son, the Rev. Alexander Alcock, Chancellor of the Diocese of Waterford and (3) third son, Simon Alcock married Rose Kelly died without issue. The older son William purchased in 1695 Wilton Castle in Wilton, County Wexford and established the Alcock tenant estates. There is an extensive printed pedigree lineal branch of his family in numerous Burke's Landed Gentries of Ireland.

In the 1894 edition of the same, there is the lineal branch of (2) his brother, Alexander.

(2) Alexander, also Dean of Lismore, married Jane Mason, daughter of Sir John Mason, at times mayor of Waterford beginning circa 1695. They had three sons (2a) Henry Alcock, Clerk of the House of Commons in Ireland married Rebecca Jocelyn, but he died without issue.
(2b) Their second son was the Rev. John Alcock, who also became the Chancellor of the diocese of Waterford and Dean of Ferns. He married Catherine Burgh, daughter of Thomas Burgh of Oldtown, County Kildare. The Burgh family date to ancient Irish times of 1100 A.D. Their three recorded sons are 1st son (2b a) Rev. Alexander Alcock married Miss Cumberland, daughter of Bishop Denison Cumberland, Bishop of Clonfert; 2nd son (2b b) Robert Alcock married Miss. Kelly, daughter of John Kelly and had two sons, namely, Major John Henry Alcock of the Waterford Militia, died without issue; and Richard Alcock, Royal Navy-no details; (2b c) Lt. Col. John Dormer Alcock married Henrietta Ashe. His will dated 2 Dec 1795, proved 10 Nov 1797. (Do not confuse him with his 2nd cousin, Sir John Alcock, mayor of Waterford 1785 and son of Colonel William Alcock of Wilton Castle.) Recorded for Lt. Col. John Dormer Alcock are two sons John Trevor Alcock and Walter Alcock and a daughter, Miss. Alcock, who married Dr. John Mungan, M.D. (Church of Ireland records-see Casey Vol. 6)(this spelling), of Monaghan, County Monaghan, brother to Lord Bishop Dr. Terence Charles Mongan Warburton (assumed surname), Bishop of Limerick and later Cloyne.

(2c) Third son of the Rev. Alexander Alcock and Jane Mason was the Rev. Alexander Alcock, Archdeacon of Lismore. He married Jane Jocelyn, sister of his elder brother's wife. There are extensive children listed, at least four Alcock sons, (2c a)Robert, died unmarried; (2c b) Alexander-4 sons, 2 daughters-many descendants; (2c c)Thomas-4 sons, 6 daughters and they had many sons; (2c d) Rev Mason-at least 3 sons -see Burke's Landed Gentry 1894.

The two recorded grandchildren of (2b c) Lt-Col. John Dormer Alcock (the only Alcock Colonel in the British Army moving up through the ranks during the period 1775-1797 is John Dormer Alcock, named in full) are (1) the Rev. Dr. John Charles Mongan, M.D. (this spelling) married Elizabeth (Bess) Wallis, daughter of John Wallis of Drishane Castle, near Millstreet, County Cork and great granddaughter of Ellen Carew and Christmas Paul, M.P. for County Carlow; (2) Sophia Caroline Mongan married the Rev. Capt. Samuel Gerard Fairtlough.

Trying to determine the first name of Miss. Alcock, daughter of Lt. Col. John Dormer Alcock. Looking for other children of Miss. Alcock and Dr. John Mungan

The Rev. Dr. J.C. Mongan branch descended through his daughter Marianne Charlotte Mongan, who married the Rev. Dr. Francis Verschoyle Young, M.D. of the City of Cork, County Cork.

The Sophia Caroline Mongan Fairtlough branch descended through Isabella Fairtlough married the Rev. Richard Boyle Kirchhoffer.

Also looking for other Alcock grandchildren, family of Rev. Dr. J.C. Mongan, brothers and sisters to Marianne, namely Charles Henry Mongan and John Mongan, and Selina Sophia Mongan and Caroline J. Mongan.
