My partner's mother was born an ALLCHIN (in Loose, Kent 1920s). We have recently received a copy of some notes made made an ALLCHIN cousin when they researched the line some years ago. We have a tree with some annotations but no indication of where the information came from, and no way of asking the original researcher. The tree gives names but few dates or places. Without any indication of sources, we are loathe to take any of it on trust, so we're starting from square one in the traditional way. We are lucky in that my partner's mother remembers her grandparents and knew some of her grandfather's (Richard ALLCHIN's) siblings. This allowed us to identify the correct family on the 1881 census. They are: Dwelling: The Rocks Census Place: East Malling, Kent, England Source: FHL Film 1341214 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 0899 Folio 53 Page 12 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Stephen ALLCHIN M 49 M West Malling, Kent, England Rel: Head Occ: Bricklayer Sussannah ALLCHIN M 45 F Wateringbury, Kent, England Rel: Wife William ALLCHIN U 17 M Et Malling, Kent, England Rel: Son Occ: Lab In Brickfield Richard ALLCHIN 15 M Et Malling, Kent, England Rel: Son Occ: Lab In Paper Mill Lewis T. ALLCHIN 7 M Et Malling, Kent, England Rel: Son Occ: Scholar From Stephen and Sussannah's ages and the age of the oldest son here, I suspect that there may have been older children. We have more information about Richard ALLCHIN and his descendants. Will post details in a separate message. The family seem to have mainly stayed in the Malling area, so any information about ALLCHINs in or from Malling / Loose would be much appreciated.
