I too am LDS, I have Alchins in my ancestry, however mine are from the Washtenaw County area of Michigan. Not sure how the two families are connected. I was aware that there were Alchins in Ingham County area. Mine are from West Malling, Kent, England. Two family members came in about 1845, the rest of the family followed in 1850. I have several generations back for this family in England.
I read somewhere that the Alchins from West Malling spelled it ALCHIN and the ones from East Malling spelled it ALCHINN or ALLCHIN. I am happy to share.
