All I Know

Hi, my name is Juan Alcantara and I live in California. I'm not really expecting a reply seeing as how no one has posted a new message on this forum for almost 9 or 10 months, but I want to put all the information I know about our last name down. The Alcantara name translates into "the bridge" in Arabic and has something to do with a bridge located in Spain. As far as I know a Castilian order of Knights adopted the last name Alcantara after defending it against Muslims during the Crusades and started The Order of Alcantara. An alternate origin states that the Alcantara name descended from jewish migrants who were forced to adopt Christianity when they moved to Spain and adopted the surname from the town they moved into.
