I am currently working as a researcher at Westfield Heritage Village in Rockton, Ontario (near Cambridge which includes the former communities of Preston and Galt). I am trying to add to the historical information we have on each building on our site. One of the buildings is the Albrecht Seip Boot and Harness Shop. For a picture go to our website at www.westfieldheritage.ca. So far I have not had any luck. This building -- or only parts of this boot and harness shop -- was moved to Westfield sometime in the early 1960s. I have investigated the Seips so far. William Seip, a shoemaker, lived and/or worked at lot 2 on the west side of Davidson St. in Galt, now the City of Cambridge. City directories show him living and/or working at this location from 1883 to 1919. He died on January 3, 1919 at the age of 83 and is buried in Mount View Cemetery. His wife was Margaret Laird and she died on October 17, 1921, at the age of 82. The name Albrecht also appears on our building. Unfortunately, not a lot of information about this family or the Seips is in our file or where the building or parts of it actually came from. We do know, however, that originally was from somewhere in Waterloo County. The City of Cambridge Archives did find an Edmund Albrecht in the database. He was married on December 31, 1901, in Galt to Eva Koehler. Edmund's parents were Christian and Wilhemina. Eva Koehler's parents were Louis and Elizabeth Koehler. Edmund and Eva were married in Galt.
It's possible that Seip worked with another tradesman in his shop. So Albrecht was probably a tradesmen. I am looking not just for genealogical information, but also any descendants that would recollect a building -- or parts of a building -- being moved from Waterloo County (possibly Cambridge area) to Westfield. Westfield, by the way, is not that far from Cambridge. It is located near Rockton, Ontario. I can be reached at my home email or at work at westfield@speedway.ca. Our phone number is 519-621-8851. Our toll free number is 1-800-883-0104.
