The numbering system in the R.S. Albee book is tricky. Of course, he was working mostly with the mail and this book of 185 pages plus 34 pages of name indexes is phenomenal for the times [pub 1920 in Wash D.C.]. I'd think it easier to have the book so you can read, read, read, and go back and look at things - make notes, etc., plus you get info from other people in this forum.
Most all names go back to Benjamin Alby/Albee listed as 1. He had 7 kids - the system follows the males. So son James [fourth kid] is 14 - then it follows all those kids to some end before it goes back to 143 son John b. Mendon, MA 8/3/1678 m. Deborah Thayer[third son of fourth son of #1 Ben] page 67. Their son John is 1437; i.e., seventh kid of third son of fourth son of #1 Ben. It will click. You need to start at the back of the number and follow it backwards.
To make it confusing - the same John #143 on page 67 is also shown on page 96 as #2 John, husbandman, b. 8/3/1678 [my note from above] with his second marriage to Abigail Searle and had six more kids.
It takes a whole lot of reading. No way to tell who #10 Samuel's parents are. It starts a new line. Others who have direct knowledge of the line may be able to help.
