Colonel L.A. Albee

For the benefit of Albee family members (see postings below):

L.A. Albee of Machias must have had a remarkable Civil War career to rise from a private to a colonel. A number of newspaper reports refer to him as Col. LA Albee and a veteran of Gettysburg.

From his obituary in the Machias Union issue of
April 29, 1915(somewhat condensed):

Col. L.A. Albee
Died at his home on High Street [Machias] last Thursday [15 April]. Son of the late John & Mary Albee of Northfield,came to Machias as a boy, and with the exception of the Civil War period, lived here his entire life. Survived by his wife and two sons, Guy of Bangor and Frank who resides in the west.

In the local news of 19 Feb. 1913 he and others were preparing to go to a reunion at Gettysburg.
