Samuel Albee (Milford, MA) and advice on Ballou's History of Milford

In the book History of the town of Milford by Adin Ballou (1882), the author suggests that Caleb and Admiral Albee may have been unrecorded sons of Samuel Albee. (I posted an earlier query regarding Caleb Albee.)

Do you have any advice on the reliability of this source generally and on this matter specifically, and whether anything has since been published that might clarify the relationship? (Chuck has checked the Albee book, and it doesn't say.)
