Hi, i can see that its been a long time and i hope that you've been able to trace your roots and solve the puzzle. the greek gentleman who claims to be of arvanitic origin seems to be confused when he asserts that arvanites have nothing to do with albanians. these claims are preposterous and downright malicious. the name arvanite, arnaut, albanese, albanen means the same thing. the arebresh of italy, croatia, romania, turkey and ukraine all identify with modern day albanians and they speak an albanian dialect. a greek would not understand a single word of arvanitika and i an albanian from kosova would understand pretty much everything.

today its cool to be greek and not albanian as it is the poorest country in europe and known for its infamous mafiosi. so the arvanites of greece (but not those of italy) are an obsequies bunch and are too eager to prove their loyalty to greece rather than their albanian brethren.

arvaniti is to albanian what "italiani" would be to italian. good luck with your quest and if i can be of any more help please feel free to enquire :)
