Many years ago, if you were orthodox in Greece meant you were Greek. If you were orthodox in maqedonia, you were macedonian. If you were orthodox in Serbia, you were Serbian.

In order to keep our Albanian language, hertiage and culture.. we sided with the Turks to fight of outside influence. At the time the catholic church and orthodox church were in huge fight with each other. Thats why catholic church didnt sent help when constantinople fell; and so orthodox chruch didnt help when ottomans placed 50yr siege in Albania in order to get to Italy. Thus we were surrounded and the catholic church didnt help us. We paid for it dearly by turning back on our catholic roots. In the end we had to fight of the turks just as well. Thus many Albanians adopted muslim in order to be distinguished from slavs and greeks.

when the turks lost control. The greeks and slavs send numerous albanians to turkey stating that they were turkish since they were muslims.

We just cant catch a break.

Now I'm having problem tracing my catholic origins/ and ancestory.
