While participating in a Church-led memorial service in the village of Borova in 1996, we met a man who, as a boy, had hid in the straw-filled loft of a house or barn in Borova on the day of the massacre. The soldiers stabbed upwards into the straw in the loft with their bayonets but missed this young boy because he had laid out on top of a structural cross-beam. He said that he has never recovered from the terror of that day.
At least two families from Borova immigrated to Philadelphia in the 1930s and can be found through St. John Chrysostom Albanian Orthodox Church.
