The way my dad always said the name was spelled was Alanis instead of the "z", but I have found that in genealogy there is not much difference, because when you are looking in census records etc, the interpetation could be different depending on who wrote the information down. I always check both spellings. Because in my case my grandmother did not have a social security number, and did not speak english, it is hard to find her, but she was active in the catholic church, so my next step is to check parish records in the area where she lived. You might try this too. If you have a birth certificate then you probably have some information on your biological parents, look for your parents birthplace. Good Luck
