The info I have on your ancestors is:
James Jefferson Jahugh Millican was born 17 Sep 1862 in Gwinnett, Georgia. He mar. Isabell Ingledove Steele (b. 22 Mar 1869 in Double Springs, Winston, Alabama) on 12 Jun 1887 in Double Springs. The parents of Isabelle (also found as Dovie and Bell) were John W. Steele & Arzula Sample.
James Jefferson Jahugh Millican (I have nothing to prove the Jahugh, but he is listed in the different censuses as: James, Jeff, & James J. J.) was the son of Thomas Jefferson Millican & Julia Ann Bonds. Thomas Jefferson Millican was born 26 Jan 1826 in Gwinnett Co., GA and died on 11 Jan 1912 in Double Springs, Winston, Alabama. I have a copy of his death certificate and will send you one if you would like it. It lists his parents as Allen Millican and Jane Millican. Julia Ann Bonds was born in May 1833 in Georgia and died 26 Aug 1904 in Winston Co., Alabama. I have not found the marriage date for Thomas and Julia's marriage, but figure they married about 1851. Thomas was still in the household with his Mother Jane and several of his siblings in the 1850 census. The census was taken in October 1850, so they had to have married in late 1850 or early 1851 in Gwinnett Co., GA or a surrounding county. Their first child (George Marion Millican) was born in 1852.
Thomas Jefferson Millican was the son of Allen Millican and Jane Storey. Allen Millican was born about 1798 in Georgia. He died sometime between 1847 when I find him in some Gwinnett Co., GA records and Oct 1850 when his wife is listed as a widow in the 1850 census.
Julia Ann Bonds was the daughter of Washington Bonds and Catherine ??. Washington was born about 1802 and Catherine was born about 1804, both in South Carolina.
Allen Millican is the son of Andrew Millican (b. 1755/1758 in North Carolina) and Lettice Cleghorn (b. 1760/1762 in North Carolina) I do not have the parentage of Jane Storey.
I also do not have the parentage of Andrew Millican. He fought in the Rev. War., but I do not have a lot of information on that. For some reason I have never looked into that. I came across information somewhere that Andrew's father was named Samuel Millican and Ruth Parrott and that is what I have in my database, but I have it marked disproved as I have only seen it one place and have nothing to back it up.
Lettice Cleghorn is the daughter of William Cleghorn, Sr. & Lettice Poage.
Lettice Poage is the daughter of John Poage and Mary Eugenia Nance.
I have lots of information on the descendants of these lines. My husband is the Millican, but I have done extensive research on the Millicans.
My husband also descends through Andrew and Lettice Cleghorn Millican, but through Allen's brother James Hemphill Millican instead. This makes you and my husband 4th cousins, once removed. I got interested in researching the descendants of Allen Millican when someone contacted me and said she had info on the parentage of Andrew Millican. This turned out to not be correct and much of her data was skewed.
There has been data put out on the internet that James's name was either Thomas Jefferson Jahugh Millican or even Thomas James Jefferson Jahugh Millican, but I find no records that Thomas was ever part of his name. I consistently find him as James J., James J. J., Jeff J., or Jeff Millican, never Thomas.
I traced James Jefferson Jahugh Millican from the 1870 census through the 1930 (except 1890, of course) census where he is found in Portsmouth, Scioto, Ohio in the same household as his son J. Wash Millican and his family. I found a lady who lives in Winston Co., Alabama and she had cemetery records from the Fairview Cemetery where, James J. J. Millican, his wife Dovie, and his parents Thomas and Julia Ann Millican are all buried. She is the one who gave me his date of death. I have been unable to find out where he died. I have looked in both Alabama and in Ohio. Dovie died in 21 May 1950 in Florence, Lauderdale, Alabama. I am looking to find obituaries and/or death certificates on both Dovie and James. An obituary or death certificate should clear up the parentage of James and show that his parents are Thomas and Julia Ann Bonds Millican. I have found copies of land records for both James and his father Thomas in Alabama and have traced them both through the census records.
