I would like to learn more about the family of these Watts men, with hopes we can connect our ancestors.

Watts Tidbits:
This DNA tests confirms the following lineage as we had suspected!
LESTER HUTSON8 WATTS b. 1949 Wichita County, Texas
Rufus Ellis (the younger one) was son of Jacob Watts (b. 1814 NC d. bet 1876-1880) and wife Martha Watts (b. 1821) (Jacob & Martha married 1841 in Lumpkin County, GA).
The Texas descendants of William Hutson/Hudson Watts were able to locate an old railroad social security application listing William Hutson Watts as being born ...Winston county, Alabama. While sorting through the Wattses we needed to positively identify via DNA from which of these families William Hutson Watts descended.

There were numerous WATTs families living in the North Alabama Counties of Blount, Morgan, Winston, Walker, Cullman, and DeKalb. Wattses who were living in this area of Alabama in early time included:
descendants from Rev. James Jefferson Watts b. 1822 of NC who by 1856 settled in Walker County, AL.

descendants of Revolutionary soldier Jacob & wife Millie Watts of Clay Co AL thru son Moses thru his sons George Wesley Watts, Moses, Jacob Andrew, and Warren Watts.

descendants of Pleasant W. Watts of Rabun Co GA and son Wilson W. W. Watts who enumerated in 1870 & 1880 Blount Co AL.

descendants of Thomas B. Watts b. 1794 and wife Hannah who listed purchasing land 1832 in No. Alabama area, settling in DeKalb co AL

Henry W. Watts b. 1805 and wife Nancy whose son Peter Franklin Watts registered to vote in 1867 Walker Co AL.

Eli Watson/Watts b. 1795 with Eli's daughter Sarah WATTS Akins (1837-1872) buried Walker Co AL. Eli's grandson Daniel Oscar Watts b.1867 buried Winston Co, AL.

William C. Watts (1823-1889) and wife Elizabeth both buried Walker Co AL

***There are of course additional stray Watts I can't place!

Martha Watts is a sister to:
Rufus Ellis Watts (b. ca 1818,died 1891 Addison, Winston Co AL, Veteran of Indian Wars) I have found no children by Ellis.

Survantus Watts (b. ca 1811 d. 1900 buried Kemp Cem, Winston Co, AL , Confederate Veteran), (ancestor to James & Wm Edward Watts & Lois WATTS Blackwood, and Treva WATTS Hood)

Levi Watts (b. 1829 GA, d. aft 1904, Winston CO AL, Confederate Veteran), (ancestor to Fred Wesley Watts & Judy Spaulding)

Jacob V. Watts (b. 1836 GA d. 1904 buried Old Houston Cem, Confederate Veteran),

Annie Malissa Watts LUSK, (husband James Leroy LUSK killed in War Betw. States. She died abt same time. Her seven orphans sent via Orphan's train to Texas, including the oldest son George Levi Survantus Lusk who wrote his autobiography.

Samuel Johnson Watts (b. 1810 NC, d. 1889 Addison, Winston CO AL, Veteran of Indian Wars

John C. Watts (b. 1809 NC, d. aft. 1870 Prob Whitfield CO GA, Veteran of Indian Wars)

It is believed Martha is a daughter of John Watts b. 1785 NC (Prob Buncombe County area). John Watts b. 1785 is believed to be a brother to David Watts born about 1786.
Both John & David Watts are listed in the 1830-1840's Lumpkin County Georgia Tax Digest and Lumpkin County Superior Court Records

David Watts b. about 1786 is thought to have children named:
Levi b. 1812 (ancestor to Mickey Watts)
Jacob (b. 1814, as listed above) (Ancestor to Lester Hutson Watts)
Catherine b. Nov 1827 married William Miller 1845 Lumpkin CO GA
and probably others unidentified.....

This clan of Watts are listed 1823 purchasing land in Habersham County, Georgia (that part that later became Hall and Lumpkin in 1833).
Several of these WATTS men are listed as serving in the 1836-1837 Seminole Indian Wars for the Georgia militia in Rowland Bearden's company under Capt. James H. Worley.

1889 WILL Winston County, Alabama left by Samuel Johnson Watts)

We are still(!) connecting families who descend from Watts of NC, especially Buncombe County area, the Lumpkin-Hall-Whitfield Georgia areas, and the Winston-Blount-Cullman-Walker Counties area of Alabama. Plus those who are EXACT DNA matches to our WATTS ancestors! Let me hear from you!

Judy Spaulding of CA (gr-grand daughter of Levi b. 1829 GA)
