"Those Gallant Men of the 28th Alabama Confederate Infantry Regiment" by Walker and Curren has the following about your ancestor:
RAY, SOLOMON Co F Enlisted in Walker County 2/22/1862 at age 49. Sent to hospital at Corinth, MS in October 1862.
