I am looking for the descendents of Lewis Devereaux Browne, (1827-1891). He was the son of John Allen Browne and Patsy Hobbs Browne. He moved with his family from perhaps Cumberland Co. N.C. to the area near the present day Hopewell Baptist Church, not from from the old community of Cottondale in Tuscaloosa County in about 1834. In 1855 he married Elizabeth Amanda Jones, daughter of Richard A. Jones and Grace McMath. He was a captain in the Confederacy and they continued to live in the same vicinity after the way.Lewis and Elizabeth had a large family. Lewis had two well known brothers, Judge Newbern Hobbs Browne, who was the probate judge in Tuscaloosa Co. from 1874-1890, and Randall Robison Browne, (1818-1899). Lewis D. Browne died just about six weeks after Newburn passed away and was buried in the Hopewell Baptist Church cemetery along side his parents and wife, who followed him in 1931 at the age of 92. I would appreciate any contact with anyone out there related to Lewis Devereaux Browne and it would be my hope that someone out there might have some pictures of him and his wife. I have further information that I can give you that I would be happy to share. Sincerely yours, Randy Stewart geny128@hotmail.co Notify Administrator about this message?
