Okay, that is a weird story. The courthouse in Talladega has been standing there for well over a century. Sounds like someone is being lazy. Try contacting the state archives in Montgomery. They may not have the actual papers, but they definitely have an index to divorces in the state and can probably help you figure out what to do next.
