Thanks Kay for getting in touch about the Old Side Cemetery, Sumter Co., Alabama.
I am looking for any Vann family members that might be buried there.
At one time the family of Joseph W. Vann, along with his sons, all lived in the area of the Siloam Baptist Church and the Old Side Baptist Church.
Joseph W. Vann was one of the founding fathers in about 1840 at the Siloam Church. Also noted was his son-in-law, Benjamin B. Hitt as a founding father, too.
A few years later, Benjamin Hitt & Joseph W. Vann left the Siloam Church and joined the Old Side Church.
Last info on Joseph W. Vann was his will that was probated some time before August, 1854.
I have seen photos of the Old Side Cemetery, and it looks like a good size cemetery.I have not been there.
The location of this church is located southeast of Emelle, Alabama.Proceed south on hiway 17 from Emelle for about 2 miles, turn east on county road 20, go approximately 2 1/2 miles, turn south on county road 74.
Then go approximately 8/10 mile, turn east on a dirt drive
of approximately 8/10 to the cemetery.Said to have about 140 markers.
If you know of any Vanns that are buried there, or in any cemetery in Sumter Co., Alabama, please let me know.
Thank you for your time,
Coyal M. Gorman
