I believe that the marriage of William "T" Turner to Mary C. Proctor on 27 August 1853 in Sumter Co., AL is the marriage for the man listed in the 1880 Census of Houston Co., TX as W. P. Turner, age 52 born NC.
The son listed as W. T. in the census who was 18 years old is listed as William P. Turner Jr. on his marriage license to Laura Corder.
Their first son was named Abner Proctor Turner.
If you follow the census for Sumter Co. AL in 1850 and 1860 and then the 1880 and 1900 Census of Houston Co. TX you can get a good idea of what is going on there.

Now some of the ages on these folks in 1850 and 1860 just aren't good comparisons but they appear to be the same two households of folks. It is certain that Charlotte Turner was the same girl who married the Threadgill guy. There was no Eliza or Elizabeth in the household in 1850.
The Threadgill family was living next to the household of W. P. Turner in Houston Co., TX in 1880.
In 1880 W.P. had sons James age 22, John age 21, W. T. age 18, R. L. age 15, Louis age 13, and some other children.
But next to him was another John Turner age 25 born AL with father listed as born NC and mother AL. This John's wife was Beckie age 24. Then next to them was the household of J. F. H. Turner age 23 born AL and living with him was his mother Elizabeth Turner age 50 born AL and his aunt Penny listed as age 65 born NC.
Also living right near these folks in Houston Co. TX in 1880 was a Rebecca Minor age 60 born NC with father listed as born SC and mother NC. She has two children living with her, daughter M. L. age 25 born AL and son D. C. 18 born AL. There is a marriage on 17 May 1848 of Rebecca Turner to Marshall Myner in Sumter Co. AL. They appear to be living in adjacent Choctaw Co. AL in 1850 and 1860 (listed both times as M. L. Minor and Rebecca. M. L. (probably Marshall) was 65 in 1850 and 74 in 1860; Rebecca was 30 in 1850 and 39 in 1860. In 1860 they have a little girl Manda L.
If you look again at the 1900 Census of Houston Co. TX, you again can tell that there are a pair of John and James Turners about the same age. In both cases, one pair lists births in AL and the other pair lists births in TX. The James Turner born Feb 1856 age 44 born in AL is the one whose Mother Elizabeth is living with them. She lists her birth as Sept 1827 in AL. This James must be the same J. F. H. Turner age 23 in 1880 with mother Elizabeth living with him.
There is a John listed as born March 1852 in AL. His wife is named Frances.
There is a James listed born Feb 1858 TX and a John listed born 1859 in TX. I believe these two are the sons of William P. Turner and Mary C. Proctor who married in Sumter Co. AL.
It appears to me that Elizabeth Turner in the 1860 Census probably had married one of the men in the household of Patience Turner--either James or Doc Lewis and that Elizabeth was then the mother (perhaps widow) of those younger children in the 1860 census in the household with Penelope.
Additionally, it looks perhaps like the household of William P. Turner and his wife Mary C. Proctor may be the following one in Houston Co., TX in 1860. The places of birth on them doesn't agree but it does look like it could be the correct family. More proof is needed that it is.

Perhaps Mary C. was Mary Caroline Proctor. The ages for James and John agree with the two sons of W. P. (widowed) in 1880. I'm betting that the wife of John Turner age 25 born AL living next to them with wife Beckie age 24 is W.P. Turner's nephew and Beckie is his daughter Rebecca in that 1860 Census.
It was only by following the other names of neighbors with relationships listed that I finally found William P. Turner in Sumter Co. AL.
I'm now trying to figure out how their family with the names of Penelope and Patience etc. are related to the other Turners there in Sumter Co. AL. If you can believe what is posted on internet family trees, the older Patience Turner age 70 born NC in 1850 (and going back a couple of census years also) was born 1779 in Dobbs Co. NC. She is the reputed widow of Matthew Turner who died in 1818 in Wayne Co. and her maiden name as been said to be Dickinson.
There are other Turner/Dickinson marriages and there are several Turners with wife named Patience from that same area.
What I need to know is: Who was the husband of this Patience Turner age 58 born SC on the 1850 Census of Sumter Co. AL. She appears to have been widowed before 1840 based on the 1840 Census of Sumter Co. AL.
Would like to exchange info on these Turners in Sumter Co. AL.
