Thanks for response. I have been looking at all sources available to me to determine Annabelle Shelby Rumley's parents names. Winfield M. Shelby - Susan Melissa Alexander was my most likely choice. There was also a William Shelby living near Fred and Annabelle S. Rumley in 1880 census I felt was possibly a brother to Annabelle. From the dates that you mentioned they are same as I have. Both Winfield and Melissa were twice married. As Winfield's will (1871)indicated that at the time of his marriage to Mary B. last name unknown he had adult children by a previous marriage. Neither set of children were named in will. Census data indicted two children Luly b. abt. 1871 and Wiley b. abt 1873. Susan Melissa Alexander had a previous marriage July 20, 1825 to Thomas McDonald in Mecklenburg Co., NC. Children of this marriage is also unnown. Whether the marriage was terminated by death or some other reason is not known at this time. I do not have dates of death on McDonald. Like wise I do not have a date nor place of death for Melissa. Winfield and Melissa marriage date is December 07, 1830, Mecklenburg Co., NC. They acquired land in Dallas Co., AL. about 1852 according to BLM records. 1870 census places them in Sumter Co., AL. Do you have a date/place of death for Melissa? I'm almost convinced that Annabelle is the child of Winfield and Melissa Shelby. Marrying shortly after her arrival in Alabama, do you have a marriage date for Annabella and Fred? Please e-mail direct if you wish at
