States: Alabama: Sumter
Pat, it's Joe again. My mother, who is now mindless in a local nursing home, was once one of the foremost genealogists in Sumter County. She knew a lot more about Elisha Lacy than I do. But, I recall that she referred to him as Captain Elisha Lacy, and, I believe, she had information that, when he came to Sumter County, he had some tie to the federal government.
I also recall that she believed, or knew, that Elisha Lacy lived near a major waterway in the north end of the county, Bodka Creek, that has a crossing known in my childhood as Lacy Ford.
Hopefully, others can help you "put some meat on these bones"!
