Beverly,

I found the following information in Pioneers and Residents of West Central Alabama Prior to the Civil War by Mage Pettit, 1988.

Thomas T. Ray was born in 1814 in Georgia, son of William Ray of Coosa County AL, son of Ransom Ray of Meriweather County GA. Thomas T. Ray owned a large plantation just off present County Road 13 (Helena, Shelby County, AL), and he and his wife Margaret are buried in Ray Cemetery.

From the book on Shelby County Cemeteries, Volume II, there is listed:

Thomas Ray 15 October 1810- 11 April 1881
Margaret C. Ray 18 December 1819- 24 February 1911

I have much more material that is too much to type in this message. Please e-mail me at BEVEL67@aol.com and provide your mailing address, and I will forward copies of the material that I have.

I live in Shelby County and have been trying to find the Ray Cemetery. When I do I can take a picture of their tombstone for you. From what I understand, this is the only tombstone in the cemetery. There are about 15-20 unmarked graves.

Also, through which child do you descend from Thomas and Margaret Ray. Would it happen to be Cynthia Ray Sturdivant? Just wanting to know as I have information on the Sturdivant family.

Looking forward to your response.

Scott
