Vaughan/Vaughn Union Co., SC>GA>AL
If anyone is researching John and Martha Vaughan who appear to have moved from Union Co., SC, between 1843 and 1850, I would be interested in comparing notes with you.The ages on the 1840 Union Co., SC, census and the 1850 Lumpkin Co., GA census match up nicely.
1850 Lumpkin Co., GA:
John Vaughn, 60, miner, born in VA
Martha Vaughn, 49, SC
Elizabeth Vaughn, 29, SC
Ashbury? Vaughn, 24, laborer, SC
Mary Vaughn, 17, SC
Joseph Vaughn, 15, SC
William Vaughn, 13, SC (born c.1837)
Martha Vaughn, 11, SC
Smith Vaughn, 7, SC
Jefferson Vaughn, 1, GA
1860 Dawson Co., GA:
John Vaughn, day laborer, 63, VA
Martha Vaughn, 54, SC
The 1840 census of Union Co., SC, listed a son who was born between 1825 and 1830 who does not appear with the family in Lumpkin Co., GA.I suspect that he was Tilman Vaughn who is shown online to have married in SC c.1849 and can be found living in Talladega Co., AL, in 1850.He is listed with a birthdate c.1830 in SC.
In 1870, William T. Vaughn, born in SC about 1836, whom I believe is the same William shown in 1850 with John and Martha Vaughn in Lumpkin Co., GA, is on the Talladega Co.,AL, census living a few doors down from Tilman Vaughn and family.I believe this is Tilman's younger brother.Between 1890-1898, Tilman and his family moved to Forrest City, St. Francis Co., AR where Tilman and his wife died in 1904.I noted that both Tilman and William T. named a daughter Ida and a son George, so they may have had a sister named Ida and a brother named George who were older and married before 1850.
William T. Vaughn was married to a woman named Martha E. and had sons John and George and daughter Ida, and they were on the census of Talladega Co., AL, until 1880.
John Vaughn, son of William T., was born in 1862 married a woman named Louisa and they named a son William T. in Sylacauga, Talladega Co., AL, in Aug 1892 before moving to neighboring St Clair Co., AL.
This William T. married a woman named Bessie and they were living in Polk Co., GA, in 1920 and Walker Co., GA, in 1930.They had daughters Lizzie M., Dollie, Iva Lee, Ola Mae and Betty.Bessie died when Betty was just 3 years of age.
If anyone knows where John, born 1790 in VA, fits into the Vaughan/Vaughn family, please let me know.William T. Vaughan, born in 1892, shortened the spelling of the name to "Vaughn."
