Wilkens Smith and his brother Andrew Jackson Smith left Hancock County Georgia and came to Russell County Alabama in the early 1840s. They are the sons of George W Smith and his wife Tabitha. Wilkens Smith married Rebecca Hurt in Russell County. Rebecca had previosly married a Harris from Harris County Georgia, and had five children by Harris. At Harris' death she married Col. Wilkens Smith and to this union was born six children. Mary, Burrell, Carrie, Hurt, Julia and Russell. Andrew Jackson Smith of Hancock County Georgia married Ann Caroline Scuddy daughter of Margaret Tinsley and Augustus Scuddy of Spartenburg South Carolina. When Margaret and Gus Scuddy came through Georgia during the Indian uprising, Margaret and her twin babies were captured. The baby girl twins were identical and the Indians had never seen twin babies just alike so they let the Mother go. The twins were Ann Caroline and Elizabeth. Margaret Tinsley and Augustus Scuddy had one son. Augustus Scuddy Jr. he was an accomplished musician. He played the fiddle for all the dances in the Uchee, Hurtsboro area.
Andrew Jackson Smith and his wife Ann Caroline Scuddy had seven children and lived on the Smith Palantation at Uchee.
Andrew J Smith Jr, James (Jim) Smith, George Smith, Laura Anna Smith married John G Persons, Tom Smith, Margaret( called Dink)Smith, Frank (Francis) Smith, Laura Anna Smith married John Gwaltnew Persons. To this union were born eight children: Mary married Will Gentry, Sarah married Henry Torbert, Johonnie married Labon Johnson, Harriet married Llwellyn Torbert, Willie James married Arthur Joel Thigpen, Frank Lawson married Judith C Williamson, Alma Persons married Joel Dean, Bettie Persons married James Iverson Williamson.
The families of Wilkens and Burrell Smith and Laura Anna Smith Persons have descendents living at Uchee.
