My Step-gr grandfather Zachary Taylor Ussery was a potter in Bacon Level, Randolph County, AL.So was my grandfather John William "Willie"Shepherd. They are both listed in the 1880 Federal Census of Bacon Level, Randolph County, AL.The census taker misspelled his name they wrote Zacheriah.
I am tracing John William Shepherds' father Billy.I am sure he was John William and his son was Jr.Billy died with Typhoid Fever on August 18, 1869 about 3 months before Willie was born and his mother Mary Liner McDoniel Shepherd went back to live with her parents, Mary Polly Prather and John McDoniel.Do you have records of any Shepherds?? I don't have any of the pottery but my mother had a piece which her grandaughter now has in Minnesota. The property belonged to the Bonners or McDonalds the last time I was there. If I remember correctly Ben McDonald had some pieces of the pottery.
