I found a marriage date on a family I'm researching and followed directions on Alabama's vital records site which said any marriage before 1936 should be obtained from the county in which the marriage took place. I sent off the required money to the probate court clerk of Pike County who wrote back saying they didn't have it and suggested I contact Montgomery. So I'm back where I started. Question: Has anybody out there had any success in finding marriage records in Pike County as far back as 1840?
