GROUP 9 – 3 DNA KITS Haplogroup R1b1c is the most common haplogroup in European populations. It is believed to have expanded throughout Europe as humans re-colonized after the last glacial maximum 10-12 thousand years ago. This lineage is also the haplogroup containing the Atlantic modal haplotype.
DNA TEST KIT #52171 has matched closely with participants in the CLAN CAMPBELL DNA PROJECT, coming very close to the modal haplotype for CAMPBELL. Kit #52171 has also joined the CAMPBELL DNA PROJECT. DNA results show that all three of these test participants are very closely related being a genetic distance of 1 or 2 to each other at 37 markers.
There are no known connections of this GILLESPIE line with any CAMPBELLS while in the U.S. This match suggests a deep ancestry, pre-surname, connection.
Additional GILLESPIES whose ancestors settled in the area of Franklin Co. Virginia in the 1700's and 1800's are needed to test for this DNA project.

"A sketch prepared by a fourth generation descendant says that Daniel Gillespie, was born in Ireland, lived in Franklin County, VA where his son Jehu was born in 1787. Daniel’s name appears in Franklin County records, about 1786-1810. Daniel and his unnamed wife had three daughters and ten sons. Several sons migrated to Kentucky, the Carolinas, Tennessee and Alabama. Many, but not all, details of the sketch have been verified."
