I have read the letters. My interest is primarily with the Fergusons. I have some ancestors who were most likely sold or transferred to the Chalmers by the Fergusons. One ancestor worked for William Chalmers in Pickens County after the Civil War according to the 1870 census. This individual, according to her death certificate, is the offspring of George Ferguson and Ann Chalmers. It appears George and Ann maintained a relationship prior to and after the Civil War, her last child Thomas Chalmers being born in July of 1867 about four (4) months after the death of a George Ferguson in Lowndes County MS. I am suspecting that George Ferguson may have worked for James Chalmers in some capacity.
