There was a private school located in Carrollton (the building still stands adjacent to the Methodist Church on Hwy 86 and is used as a private residence). I believe that it was an all female academy initially, but later was co-ed. At that time it was called "Carrollton Male and Female Academy".

Carrollton is the County Seat, and is near the center of the county. Speed's Mill is, I think, the same as Bonner's Mill, which is about 8 or so miles Southeast of Carrollton on Hwy 22. "Old Bethany Church" is located about 15 miles south of Carrollton, near the Sipsey River on Hwy. 14.
