Here's what I have on my Mitchells. My earliest "for certain" ancestor is John B. L. Mitchell, b. 11/4/1826, Perry Co., AL, m. Lucinda Autrey (daughter of Absolam Autrey of Perry Co., AL), 11/3/1847, d. 3/17/1879. John B. L. Mitchell and his father-in-law were the first settlers of Lincoln Parrish, LA having moved there from Perry Co. AL in 1848. John B. L. Mitchell is my g-grandfather. Until recently I believed that J.B.L. Mitchell's father was John Mitchell of Perry Co. This belief was based on the fact that J.B.L. Mitchell was listed as an heir in John Mitchell's will while other children of John Mitchell were not. Recently, I have been directed to the i850 Census data, Dublin Beat, Perry County AL. I believe that there are at least three households recorded on the Census that are related. The households are #52, #58, and #32 (Ephraim Mitchell, Jas Mitchell, and John Mitchell, respectively, all shown as born in KY). I do not know where in KY they were born, nor do I know who their parents or siblings were. Household #52 Ephraim Mitchell 49 KY Elizabeth 24 AL Rebecca 22 James G 20 Ephraim H 18 Household #58 Jas Mitchell KY Susan 55 GA Mary W 27 TN John B L Elizabeth P 17 AL Rebecca A 15 Wm P 13 Household #32 John Mitchell 53 KY Nancy 53 SC Jinsey In the 1850 Census John B. L. Mitchell is listed in Household #58, the only occupant without an age listed. According to my other information, he would have been 24 years old at the time, married (where's his wife Lucinda Autrey Mitchell---presumably back at their or her father's home in Dubach, LA)abd a property owner in LA. I am just guessing that John B. L. Mitchell is visiting in AL and staying in the household of James Mitchell (his probable uncle under this theory. If john B. L. Mitchell is the son of James Mitchell, why did he share as an heir in the estate of John Mitchell when other of his children did not? And the estate settlement was in 1867, nine years after J.B.L. Mitchell had relocated to Lincoln Parrish LA? So, who were John B. L. Mitchells's parents, James or John? Or Ephraim? What was the geographic location of the Dublin Beat on the 1850 Census? Where exactly did these Mitchell Households own property? Any information, insight, suggestions on tracking these questions further will be most sincerely appreciated!!!
