Ruth, sorry I've not replied to you before now. Genealogy has been on the back burner this summer while other family matters take precedence.
Your Thomas Newman branch of Monroe Co, AL, holds promise as relatives of my gggrandmother Harriet Newman Johnson. I recently encountered that same name, Thomas Newman, in Virginia when Harriet's son John married in 1881 in Fauquier Co, VA, to Annie Lee Rhine. It was Rev. Theron Wallace Newman who performed the ceremony. Rev. Newman descends from Thomas > Thomas > Alexander > Elias > Thomas > James > Theron Wesley >Theron Wallace.
I don't believe it was coincidence that both of Harriet's children had weddings performed by two different ministers named Newman. Her daughter Abigail first married Thomas Williams in 1860 in Rankin Co, MS, performed by Rev. James Newman, whose wife was the former Penelope Eloisa Davis. So you see, it's not the first time I've encountered the Newman-Davis connection.
Anything you can add to this will be appreciated. Thanks for responding.
