I believe you may be correct. My grandmother, daughter of Jeremiah Franklin Johnson, once told me that her father was named after J.F. Morton (her maternal grandfather). She related that J.F. Morton and James Marlboro Johnson lived near each other, and were friends. Apparently, they were such good friends that the Johnsons named their son after J.F. Morton.
