There is a John and Susan Colburn listed in the 1860 Census of Perry County. He is listed as 59 years old, a shingle maker, and born in SC. She is 55 years old and born in Georgia. There is also a John W. Colburn aged 35, born in Alabama, married to M.A.(born SC), and children William H., John, Irene, M.S. (f), and George. John W. Colburn died of illness at Lynchburg,VA in July 1862 while serving in Company A of the 8th Alabama Infantry Regiment. He enlisted on May 8, 1861 at Marion, Alabama.
