Nannette, there are a couple of gedcoms on Rootsweb that show Alfred Johnson Byerly descends from Mary Newman, wife of William Hampshire Byerly, then her father Alfred Johnson Newman, then his father Benjamin Knapp Newman of Dallas Co, AL. The Duncan connections are in there, too, and some Worrells. Have you seen them?
Have you found your Alfred on a census when he was not living with younger relatives, and do you know what part of the county it was in?
