Joshua was a wagon guard for the Union Army. His pension
states he was captured at Days Gap and taken to Sommerville. When the Company had to pull out becouse the Union Army was comming up on them,Joshua was captured as wagon guard and had no horse. He could not keep up with the Confederate Army on foot,so they took him into the woods at Sommerville and shot him through the heart. The citizens of Sommervile saw this and testified they helped to bury him.He was 22 years old.
It just upset me to no end when I read this report from WAshington. No matter what side he fought for he deserved better treatment than this.It has been told a Wilhite guy shot him.
