Have you found your answer about 1860s schools in the Montgomery Co., Alabama, area? If not, contact the Montgomery Genealogical Society (not Historical Society). I think you're searching for a school that might have been attended by Kirven/Kervin boys who joined the CSA in Montgomery in 1861, listed as teenage students. I'm a Kirven descendant and will be glad to share data with you on these families.
