Josiah's mother was only known as Anna and may have been native american. Josiah's first wife Julia America King filed her application to enroll with the Cherokee Nation.

Charlie McClain's mother in law was Alice Lorena Stephens Bozeman and her grandmother was a full blood from NC.

Some of the Bozemans of early Georgia tried to enroll with the Cherokee Nation but were rejected.
