Gerry,
David Cannon who served in the CSA is recorded in Co. G, 15th Ala. Regiment. This unit served in the Army of Northern Virginia. He enlisted 7/16/1861 at Abbeville which is near the Georgia line in Henry County. The 15th was sent to aid Bragg at Chickamauga (September 1863) and Cannon was severely wounded. He went on furlough but returned and was present at the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia in May 1864. No additional data is available in his record. This may explain his presence in the prison at St. Louis. The interesting fact is that his post office is recorded as Franklin, AL. (a town in Monroe County) He is recorded as age 15 yet his record states that he was married and a farmer. If he enlisted at 15 in 1861, he would have been born ca. 1846. There is another David Cannon who served with Co. D, 15th Confederate Cav. This man has a Florida pension application that I have not been able to locate. The 15th Confederate Cav. fought at the skirmish in Monroe County (Battle of Mt. Pleasant) in April 1865. Many of this company were from Santa Rosa County, FL. and the counties of Alabama that border Florida. My information related to David Cannon and his son, John H. (or E.) Cannon comes from other researchers.
Frankly, I am still searching to learn what happened to Martha Mary Stacey Cannon and her family after 1870. William Burris Cannon is the only one recorded in the Stacey Bible but he does not appear in the census records with John and Mary.
