This response is to a post made 1/07/07. Attached are notes that relate to some families named. Names are spelled as recorded in the referenced documents. John CANNON, husband of Martha Mary Stacey, daughter of Amos Stacey and Elizabeth KEARLEY. Monroe County, AL. Patent Book 1. David Cannon certificate # 36824. John Cannon lived at the home of his father, David Cannon, when he married Martha Mary Stacey. The home was located 2 miles west of Burnt Corn in the NE1/4 of NE1/4 of Section 32, Township 7N, Range 9E, Monroe County, AL. John H. Cannon joined Co. A, Mobile City Troops, a local defense organization commanded by Capt. Arrington, at Camp Withers. He was discharged December 24, 1862 when he furnished a substitute, James T. Lyons. September 20, 1850 U.S. Census, Household 105, Monroe County, AL. Martha Mary Stacey, 19, lived with her husband, John E*. Cannon, 22. John Cannon was a carpenter. William Jones, 21, a laborer, lived in the home. The neighbors were his parents, David and Leah Cannon, and William Breckett. Sarah Curley (Kearley) lived in household 107 and Joshua Curley (Kearley) lived in household 108. Sarah Curley was the step-mother of Martha's mother, Elizabeth Kearley Stacey, and Joshua was her mother's half brother. September 24, 1860 U.S. Census. Household 976, Southern Division of Mobile County, Mobile City, pg. 112. Mary Cannon, 26, lived with her husband, John, 28, and children; Ann*, 6, Corrine*, 4, and Nancy*, 2. John Cannon was a farmer. Their real estate was valued at $4500. and the personal estate was valued at $15,000. The neighbors were Charles Limburgher and James Miles, both were butchers. September 19, 1860 U.S. Census Slave Schedule 2, Southern District of Mobile County, Mobile City, pg. 18. John H. Cannon owned 8 male slaves, ages 60, 33, 30, 20, 12, 10, 7, 3 and 4 female slaves ages 40, 33, 13, and 10. July 29, 1870 U.S. Census. Household 1739, Beat 8, Dennards Bluff, Monroe County, AL., pg. 217. Mary S. Cannon, 36, lived with her husband, John Cannon, 38, and children Annie*, 17, Corine*, 14, and Mattie*, 12. The neighbors were Joseph Crosby and Augusta Vincent. Their personal estate was valued at $908. John Cannon was a farmer. Notes on Elizabeth KEARLEY, wife of Amos Stacey, born 1803 Sumter District, SC. 1790 U.S. Census. York County, SC. The Joseph Kerley* household was recorded with one male aged sixteen or older, one male under sixteen, and four females. In 1800, there were three Kerly* families in York County. The Joseph Kerly* household was recorded with one male 10 to 16, one male 16 to 26, and one male 45 or older, one female 16 to 26, and one female 45 or older. Next door, the Jesse Kerle* household was recorded with one male under 10 and one male 26 to 45, two females under ten, and one female 26 to 45. On the next page, Josiah Kerly*, aged 26 to 45, lived alone. Josiah Kearley, father of Elizabeth Kearley, was recorded in the 1830 U.S. Census for Monroe County, AL. as the neighbor of George Stacey, father of Amos Stacey. Her mother is unknown. Her step-mother was Sarah Kearley, daughter of John Cannon and Gemima Broughton. In 1807, John Cannon died in Sumter District, SC. His will, witnessed by Sarah Broughton and Abijah Rembert, named his wife, Gemima, and sons, Edward and Nathaniel. Gemima Cannon (1765 SC - 1854 AL), was the daughter of Edward Broughton and Elizabeth Ragan. Gemima Broughton Cannon had three brothers. Edward Broughton remained in SC on the Santee River near the present day Sumter/Clarendon County line. John H. Broughton moved to Greene County, GA. Nathaniel Broughton migrated to Monroe County, AL. in 1816 or 1817. Gemima married John Runnels before 1810 and had a daughter by him. Gemima Broughton Cannon Runnels migrated to Alabama with her brother, Nathaniel Broughton, in 1816/17, and she is listed on the 1830 census of Monroe County, AL. Two of Gemima's children, Nathaniel Cannon and Sarah Cannon Kearley, wife of Josiah Kearley (father of Elizabeth Kearley Stacey) moved to Monroe County, AL. in 1816/1817. Her children, David Cannon and Flora Cannon Nettles, wife of Joseph M. Nettles, were in Monroe County in 1830. David Cannon's son, John E. Cannon, married Martha Mary Stacey, daughter of Amos Stacey and Elizabeth Kearley Stacey. Source: Herbert Broughton, Frisco City, AL. Kearley notations in the Stacey Bible record twins Joshua and James Kearley born February 07, 1818. Tabithe (also spelled Tobitha) Kearley was born September 15, 1827 and her husband, Andrew J. Brown, was born April 08, 1828. They married October 17, 1850. (Monroe County Marriage Book A, pg. 137. Security was signed by John E*. Cannon and Joel Hardee conducted the ceremony) The Kearleys, children of Josiah Kearley and Sarah Cannon, were half-siblings of Elizabeth Kearley Stacey. Notes on Louisa Stacey Bozeman.....mentions Jimima RUNNELLS November 13, 1850. U.S. Census, Monroe County, AL. Household 580. Louisa Bozeman, 28, lived with her husband, Louis B. Bozeman, 38, and their children, Jasper T., 11, Sarah E., 3, and William T., 6 months. Louis Bozeman was a farmer. The neighbors were Jimima RANDALLS* (actually RUNNELLS), 85, Sarah BROUGHTON, 70, and Nancy R., 40, in household 579 and Elizabeth Bozeman in household 581.
