States: Alabama: Mobile
Several thousand Confederate soldiers were taken as POWs during the Civil War at Blakely, Alabama. I have tried to find it on modern maps, and I can't find it, and it is not listed in the index of maps. But, Civil War records state that the POWs, taken at Blakely, were then marched toward Spanish Fort (near Mobile) and eventually were taken on to Ship Island, Mississippi (Fort Massachussetts, controlled by the Union Army). Help needed!
